Job description
Function: Under the direction of the Principal and Assistant Principal, the Dean of Students will oversee and manage daily student behavior and discipline. The Dean of Students will work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, coaches, parents and student leadership groups to develop and maintain a positive school culture and learning environment for all.Duties and Responsibilities: 1.Informs students and parents about school and district policies; and collaborates with the Guidance and Office staff to ensure all new students are appropriately welcomed and advised of school expectations2.Manages student supervision issues, assists staff and parents in developing student behavioral expectations, and enforces school behavioral expectations.3.Assists teachers with effective classroom management strategies and serves as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issues4.Establishes and communicates progressive discipline policies and a pyramid of interventions to address student behaviorsa.Manages discipline referrals to the office;b.Assists in the planning, developing and implementing of individual student behavior plans.c.Reviews Individual Education Plans (IEP) and collaborates with special educators to impact positively student behavior; ensures that all teachers of students with IEPs have knowledge of and implement behavior plans5.Confers appropriate consequences for behavior with Principal and Assistant Principala.Coordinates alternative school placement for students with behavior/discipline issuesCoordinates in-school suspensionCoordinates and supervises detentionUnder the supervision of the Assistant Principal, confers out-of-school suspension.b.Confers consequences to students with school bus discipline referralsc.Provides mediation for student-student conflicts6.Assists the Principal and Assistant Principals in developing and implementing school-wide programs to promote positive student behavior, improve attendance as well as arrange for interventionsa.Collaborates with the School Attendance Officer to monitor attendance (absence/tardy), dress code, and reports chronic absent or tardy students to Guidance/Assistant Principalb.Collaborates with Principal, Assistant Principal, and Guidance staff to coordinate positive alternatives for studentsc.Collaborates with staff and families to develop and lead after school support programs7.Is knowledgeable ofa.State and federal regulations/laws on discipline, and student supervisionb.The related laws of Rhode Island, the Basic Education Program and the policies, regulations and procedures of the Woonsocket Education Department and the Rhode Island Department of Educationc.Principles of effective management, and methods of instruction which enhance student successd.Effective peer mediation processese.Positive behavior intervention strategiesf.Effective classroom management strategiesg.Effective strategies for fostering a positive school cultureThis is for the 2022-2023 School Year and is an annual appointment.This is an interview Position.Salary is per the WTG CBA.arclintfl.com is the go-to platform for job seekers looking for the best job postings from around the web.
