Position Details
The University of Northern Iowa's College of Social and Behavioral Sciences invites internal applications for the position of Department Head of the soon to be formed Department of Kinesiology and Athletic Training. This is a 5 year appointment with potential for renewal. The Department Head reports to the Dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The Department of Kinesiology and Athletic Training will consist of 14 full time faculty, 11 athletic trainers, 3 strength and conditioning coaches, and 1 office staff. It offers an array of programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contributes to teacher education through the physical education teaching major. The Department Head is responsible for preparing and monitoring the department's budget; finalizing the course schedules and adjunct requests; overseeing daily operation of the department; facilitating curriculum implementations and revisions in conjunction with the faculty; assigning responsibilities to and evaluating faculty and staff performance; establishing a shared vision for the department and communicating this vision to the university, public, and academic community; other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Education Requirements:
Doctorate degree required.
Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate must be a tenured member of the Department of Kinesiology and Athletic Training, at either a rank of associate or full professor. Required qualifications include evidence of academic leadership experience such as department head, program coordinator, administrative fellow position, university level committee chairship, or other leadership roles in academic or similar programs; possesses a strong record of teaching, research, and service; is committed to undergraduate and graduate education; supports and advocates for faculty and programs within the Department; and demonstrates a democratic leadership style which places value on transparent, deliberative, equitable, and participatory decision making about significant departmental matters.
