Service all equipment associated with the mud systems and ensure that it is operating properly. This equipment includes: the shale shaker, desander, desilter, certrifugal pumps and their power, triplex mud pumps, mud lines and their safety chains, valves, and gauges. He must also keep the pit area, walkways, pumps, and mud house orderly and free of nonessential items.
The position which is at the top of the derrick.
From this position they guide the stands of drill pipe, typically 90 feet (27 meters) long, into the fingers at the top of the derrick while tripping (removing the drill string) out of the hole.
When tripping into the hole (or "running in") they will pull the pipe out of the fingers and guide it into the elevators suspended from the top drive.
Work closely with the mud engineer in the capacity it is their responsibility to monitor pH and calcium levels, viscosity and the mud weight (density), adding sacks of chemicals (25-100 lb each) to the mud or oil to maintain the desired properties, and monitor the mud level in the mud pits to aid well control.
Responsible for the shale shakers and mud pumps (making sure they run well and repairing them as needed).
Responsible for the transfer of additional fluids or chemicals (e.g.: Barite, Bentonite or oil-based fluids) from bulk silos or tanks to the mud system.
Lift and carry mud sacks that weigh 100 pounds for short distances.
Bunk house accommodations are provided on location with per diem paid bi-weekly.
Provided PPE includes Hard hat, safety glasses, and impact gloves.

Minimum of two (2) years experience in laboring position; Possess a strong mechanical aptitude; Excellent communicator with demonstrated experience working effectively in a team setting; Able to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment; Work outdoors and in various weather conditions; Able to meet drug and alcohol test requirements and fitness to work; Work locations are remote, so must have reliable transportation to and from location ;Valid State driver's license or ID.
