Minimum Starting Salary:
Discrimination Investigator I: $23.54 - 30.01 per hour, depending on qualifications (Grade S13)
Discrimination Investigator II: $24.86 - 31.70 per hour, depending on qualifications (Grade S13)

Nature of Work:

Discrimination Investigator I: Performs professional and administrative work performing intakes and investigating complaints of unlawful discrimination in employment, residential housing and public accommodations, pursuant to Chapter 57 of the Code of the City of Orlando, Title VII and Title VIII (Fair Housing Act) of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, as amended, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADAA) and other applicable federal, state and local discrimination laws. An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for the office intakes, carry a small case load, provide technical assistance, and conduct education and outreach workshops. Work is performed under general supervision of the Human Relations Manager and performance is reviewed through discussions, EEOC and HUD audits and performance assessments, review of reports submitted and evaluation of results achieved.

Discrimination Investigator II: Performs professional and administrative work investigating complaints of unlawful discrimination in employment, residential housing and public accommodations, pursuant to Chapter 57 of the Code of the City of Orlando, Title VII and Title VIII (Fair Housing Act) of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, as amended, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADAA) and other applicable federal, state and local discrimination laws. Responsibilities include conducting fact finding sessions, counseling and providing technical assistance, interpreting applicable laws, investigating complaints, conducting seminars, workshops and case law research; and preparing analytical reports. Work is performed under general supervision or the Human Relations Manager and performance is reviewed through discussions, EEOC and HUD audits and performance assessments, review of reports submitted and evaluation of results achieved.

Minimum Requirements

Discrimination Investigator I: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Social Sciences and one year of experience conducting Title VII investigations with local or federal government agency or Associates Degree and three years of experience as specified; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Discrimination Investigator II: Bachelors Degree, preferably in Social Sciences and two year experience conducting Title VII investigations with local or federal government agency; or Associate Degree and four years experience as specified; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

ALL LEVELS:

  • Required to perform/attend any Human Relations/Community Relations activity deemed necessary by the Director; this includes hours after 5:00 p.m., weekends and holidays.
  • Valid Florida driver license required.

VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
