HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR III – EXCAVATOR/DOZER OPERATOR
Job Summary:
The Excavator/Dozer Operator is responsible for moving and grading projects by scooping, digging, lifting, or transporting rock, sand or gravel from designated area located on the project site to trucks.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Greases equipment daily to keep properly maintained.
· Conducts routine inspections before operating equipment to identify needed maintenance or repairs.
· Performs or requests necessary repairs and adjustments to equipment.
· Operates all heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
· Responsible for locating utilities and other lines before digging.
· Operate tractors or bulldozers to perform such tasks as clearing land, mixing sludge, trimming backfills, or building roadways or parking lots.
· Ensures work is completed to specification by observing grade stakes, material levels, hand signals, and other markers, always being aware of the surroundings.
· Responsible for safe slopes on excavations, along with knowledge of trenching and shoring.
· Needs to understand the different soil types and how they affect the work being completed.
· Must be able to use other pieces of equipment to backfill, load, and excavate if needed.
· Effectively communicate with the team on the ground.
· Will need to be able to monitor and discuss production with project foreman.
· Consults digging plans, machine specifications, and safety procedures for specific tasks.
· Adheres to all safety rules, guidelines, and codes.
· Maintains records of time worked and materials used.
· Wear proper PPE (safety) when on site.
· Assists in training less-experienced employees on the proper operations, servicing, and repair of equipment to help assist in furthering their knowledge of the equipment and its usage.
· Ensures all OSHA and Safety regulations are followed as required by Alta Construction.
· When not operating equipment, you will be required to assist other workers performing other duties.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· 2+ Years’ Experience operating an Excavator or Dozer.
· Ability to operate heavy machinery.
· General knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used in the construction industry.
· Basic knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions that are common with using heavy equipment.
· Ability to follow instructions and read plans.
· Excellent mechanical and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to perform basic arithmetic as needed.
Physical Requirements:
· Able to complete physically demanding work.
· Ability to get climb in, around and out of equipment.
· Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
· Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
· Able to kneel, crouch, or crawl in awkward spaces to repair equipment.
· Must be able to work in all types of weather, including extremely hot and extremely cold temperatures.
· Must be able to work some Saturdays as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
