DSHS Revenue Agent 3

Washington State Department of Social and Health Services’ (DSHS) Office of Financial Recovery is seeking a Revenue Agent 3 to join the team in Olympia, WA!

In this role, you will be a lead worker and provide technical direction and training to journey-level and new Revenue Agents. You will perform financial recovery enforcement duties to include, investigation, research, enforcement, negotiation and settlement, collection, recoupment, and other duties related to financial recovery in support of the DSHS mission to Transform Lives.

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Train and provide technical guidance in investigation techniques and the use of appropriate legal remedies
  • Negotiate settlements or waive collection when not cost effective or feasible
  • Approve first level negotiations and settlements of claims and waivers of collections
  • Perform review for Revenue Agents
  • Enforce the recovery of public funds through administrative and judicial procedures
  • Evaluate and determine collection ability and prioritize the recovery of overpayments
  • Prepare cases requiring court action; testify in court and administrative hearings
  • Interpret and explain federal and state programs, policies, regulations, laws, directives, rules and eligibility to clients

What we’re looking for:

  • Knowledge of investigation procedures and practices, collection laws and procedures, legal rights and remedies in civil law, basic accounting practices, and supervision is desirable
  • Ability to utilize people skills and leadership techniques to provide coaching, mentoring, and training to ensure successful completion of tasks
  • Knowledge of investigative skills to identify sources, gather and document facts, evaluate information, and draw conclusions
  • Experience working with others in assisting them to take timely action in which they may be reluctant regarding the negation and settlement of claims and their need to make payment on debts owed
  • Ability to independently manage workloads and perform quality case management

Who should apply?

  • Professionals with two years of experience as a Revenue Agent 2

OR

  • A bachelor’s degree involving a major study in business administration, accounting, public administration, police science, economics, criminal justice, sociology, psychology, law, or closely related field AND two years of experience in the field of personal or business finance, tax auditing, law, law enforcement, adjustment of claims, examination, and analysis of business tax records, collection of civil debts or other related field
