Electronics Technician II

This position is assigned to the Western Region Maintenance Yard and located at Avery Mitchell Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine, NC.

  • This position will provide journey level skills in the electronics field and will perform installations, diagnostic trouble shooting, corrective/preventive maintenance and repair on a wide variety of electronic equipment and systems, and PBX Systems and fire alarm systems associated with adult correctional institutions.
  • This will include the ability to layout and design electronic circuitry to support new installations and needs of the various facilities within the region.
  • Duties will require installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair to discrete component levels of solid state electronic equipment in control rooms, perimeter fence areas, office areas, physical plants, mechanical rooms and other areas.
  • Facilities utilize a wide variety of electronic systems for the purpose of maintaining security, including programmable logic controllers, close-circuit video cameras and high resolution monitors, electronic intrusion systems (EIS) consisting of frequency modulated microwave transmitters/receivers, tactile sensor wire, and wired and wireless lans for security.
  • Position will supervise the work of skilled and unskilled labor (including inmates) in the completion of assigned tasks.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC11. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):
The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Associate's degree in electronics from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive experience in the repair and maintenance of complex electronic systems including some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
