Summary of Position
- The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for providing design engineering technical leadership and support on cross-functional product development teams through all phases of the design cycle, including initial concept design/prototyping, product development, and the design output documentation required to bring surgical devices or related medical products to market.
- In addition, the Senior Design Engineer may support related bench testing/inspection fixture and production tooling design, development, and documentation activities.
- As an independent contributor, the Senior Design Engineer must be able to coordinate and implement concurrent engineering practices either within the organization during an organic product development process or when working with an external development partner.
- Also, the Senior Design Engineer may help mentor and develop lower-level engineers and specialists.
Essential Duties and Position Responsibilities
- Utilize Solidworks CAD design skills to provide mechanical engineering support for the development of medical device components, assemblies, and final packaging
- Create and develop new product and tooling designs in a cross-functional team environment, provide innovative solutions that solve design for manufacture needs while addressing mechanical, material selection and manufacturing process design challenges
- Provide strong technical leadership by applying parametric 3D solid modeling, FEA, tolerance analysis, design of experiments, design layout and prototype construction skills
- Work closely with other engineers, specialists, and production personnel to execute the physical fabrication/troubleshooting of product or tooling design prototype assemblies
- Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformance to standards, accuracy of calculations and proper dimensioning and tolerancing
- Support design documentation and prototyping of internal intellectual property submissions
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
Required:
- BS engineering degree with 5 years of relevant experience or advanced engineering degree with 2 years of experience required
- Knowledge of general design engineering principles, component manufacturing processes, tooling methodologies, and material properties required
- Experience with relevant parametric CAD modeling software
Desired:
- Mechanical Engineering degree
- Advanced Solidworks CAD design, drawing, and PDM vault competencies
- Knowledge of disposable or implantable medical device technologies
- Able to work independently and thrive in a team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Salary: $50.00 - $58.00 per hour
