Overview

The Epidemiologist III will conduct surveillance and investigation of reportable infectious diseases in Chittenden County. This is done by gathering information about certain illnesses from healthcare providers, schools, childcare centers, workplaces, long-term care facilities, and community members. The Epidemiologist III will serve as an infectious disease epidemiology subject matter expert, providing support to health care providers and community partners in infectious disease surveillance, prevention, and control. This position requires occasional work outside standard work hours. In all the work there is a dedication to create fair and just opportunities for all Chittenden County residents to be healthy.

It is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized for a specific period of time. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed mainly in standard office setting but with regular need to travel to hospitals for which private means of transportation must be available. Periodic participation in community or provider meetings which may be held after regular business hours. There is predictable need to manage and deal with members of the medical profession and the public in emotional and moderate-pressure situations.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in epidemiology or public health.

OR

Master's degree with at least 6 graduate credits in epidemiology.

OR

Bachelor's degree with at least 12 college credits in epidemiology or statistics AND 2 years of experience.
