Position Summary:
Met Council is America’s largest Jewish charity dedicated to serving the needy. Met Council’s ten different departments are staffed by experts who helped over 305,000 clients in 2021 and continuously advocate on behalf of all needy New Yorkers. Our holistic programs range from 100% affordable housing at 20 locations to our award-winning family violence program to comprehensive Holocaust survivor assistance to senior programming to crisis intervention to the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 101 food pantries, 20 affordable housing sites, and 15 JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York.
The Facilities Manager, reporting to the Managing Director, Human Resources, is responsible for supporting our main office space by scheduling regular maintenance, responding to work orders, and assisting staff members with general repair. The Facilities Manager will also respond to similar needs across our multiple locations throughout New York City, as needed.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Maintain day-to-day operations of main office space, including delegating or completing work orders.
- Serve as the main point of contact for building management and all relevant vendors including cleaning staff, air systems, and maintenance vendors.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage special projects such as furniture set-up and office moves.
- Ensure that vendor invoices are coded correctly and sent for processing in a timely manner.
- Provide support assistance for other office locations, as needed.
- Coordinate delivery and work schedules with vendors, contractors, and building management.
- Respond to miscellaneous staff requests.
- Assess office facilities, perform routine maintenance, and make repairs, as needed.
- Schedule routine inspections and emergency repairs with outside vendors.
- Ensure proper security measures for the workplace, including collaborating with building management on security system.
- Additional responsibilities as required.

Skill and Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 3-5 years’ experience in office/facilities management
- Thorough knowledge of building management services and systems
- Knowledge of managing facilities of an organization with multiple establishments
- Knowledge of HVAC, general repair, relevant building systems, etc.
Special Requirements:
- Will be required to travel around metropolitan NY area via public transportation.
- Position may require “non-traditional” work hours
Physical Demands:
- Required Constantly: Walking, sitting, grasping, bending, stooping, squatting, computer input, finger dexterity and coordination of hand, eye and foot
- Required Frequently: Standing and climbing stairs; carrying laptop & files (approx. 8-10 lbs)
- Required Occasionally: Reaching above the shoulder, and lifting 5-25 pounds, pushing and pulling
Compensation: $28 - $34 per hour
Benefits: Pre-tax commuter benefits; 403(b); plus pro-rated vacation, sick leave, and holidays.
