Description:

The Field Logger’s primary responsibility will be to direct drilling crews in the field and provide accurate logging of soil borings including field classification of soil samples, documentation of field-testing and documentation of other pertinent data. Secondary responsibilities will include helping in the CoMET Lab/Field during slow periods, assist lab in testing (PI’s, etc.). Experience logging TxDOT projects is highly desirable. Technical: • Collect logging supplies required for each job. • Drive assigned equipment to drill site. • Prepare accurate and detailed logs for each boring drilled. • Package samples for transportation to laboratory. • Turn in logs and site plans as completed. • Assist driller and roughneck as required. • Inform driller of worn or broken sampling tools and any additional tools required. • Inform supervisor when logging supplies, notebook, paper, wax, quart containers, aluminum foil, etc., are in low supply and should be reordered. • Assist with site reconnaissance and layout of borings on job sites. • Assist with preparation of graphics including but not limited to Boring Location Maps and Boring Logs. • Lift and/or carry up to 65 pounds to include, but not limited to tools, sample containers and equipment. • Potential exposure to movement of heavy equipment on construction or roadway sites; potential exposure to hazardous dangerous chemicals and solvents, noise, dust, fumes, grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration; all of which would require employee to follow proper safety procedures and utilize appropriate protective equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Employees shall possess the following minimum qualifications: • High School diploma or G.E.D.; Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related science preferred. • Minimum of one year of comparable experience. • Possess Texas driver’s license and meet firm’s auto insurability requirements. • Communication skills to interact with clients and staff successfully. Clarity and understanding a high priority to prevent costly and time-consuming errors. • Organizational skills to utilize company resources efficiently and effectively. • Above average writing skills. • Familiarity with personal computer applications. • Occupational safety and health act 40-hour training course or ability to pass course. • Must have ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. • Must have accurate and legible handwriting for marking and logging samples correctly
