Job Description
The Marketing Manager for Solid State Batteries is responsible for assessing the trends, drivers, and needs of the battery market and translating these into strategic projects, partnerships, and products for Albemarle. Critical to success will be the ability to segment the market and customers and build compelling business cases for innovation and future investments.
This individual will be located at the Charlotte HQ office or the R&D Technical Center in Kings Mountain and will report to the Global Marketing Director. The individual will work closely with our Advanced Energy Storage Materials (AESM) commercial and technical teams to develop and deploy our growth strategy as well as enhance core processes for innovation management and product launch.
Summary for This Position
  • Analysis of trends, drivers, and market needs for batteries and energy storage: Conduct market and competitive research (from publicly available resources) to identify market needs, develop compelling business cases for innovation, and go-to-market strategies. Partner with Technology and Commercial teams to enhance Albemarle’s long-term view of the battery market and technology roadmaps.
  • Segmentation: Develop segmentation framework for assessing market applications, customers, and Albemarle’s ability to differentiate.
  • Innovation Management: Partner with commercial and technical counterparts to enhance the innovation management process with active contributions to ideation, review of gate requirements, and project management for active projects. Prepare quarterly pipeline reviews of active projects and expected commercial value.
  • Customer Engagement: Partner with commercial teams to drive customer conversations around market needs and innovation. Represent Albemarle at industry events and conferences, and where appropriate, support with organization and execution of such events.
  • Internal and External Stakeholder Relationship Management: maintain active relationships with customers, industry experts, and analysts as well as building collaborative partnerships across Albemarle’s commercial and technical teams. Ability to work across cultures and in a global environment is a must.
Requirements
  • Curiosity and discipline to gain in-depth insights on the market, customers, and the competitive landscape. Ability to synthesize complex information and convey it in a focused and compelling business narrative.
  • Agility and creativity to work in a fast-paced and evolving market landscape.
  • Technical aptitude and ability to build collaborative partnerships with R&D and process technology.
  • Customer-centric mindset with ability to drive dialogue and discovery across multiple stakeholders.
  • Organized, detailed, with strong project management skills.
  • Relevant experience with advanced battery technologies, semi-solid-state batteries is preferred.
  • Experience with assessing business cases, driving innovation, and reviewing gate requirements.
  • MarComm expertise spanning conferences, webinars, and other forms of digital marketing.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Master’s degree preferred, preferably MBA
    • 7 years marketing, sales, business development, or innovation management.
    • Chemical and/or automotive industry experience is a plus
    • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel & PowerPoint skills
