Position Summary:
The Head Teacher provides care for children ranging from six weeks through twelve years of age. Teachers help provide daily care for children by meeting basic daily needs and providing age appropriate activities incorporating standards from Ages and Stages and the Quality Rating Scale to stimulate child development.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education OR Must have associate's degree and 60 hours of college courses with specifically six (6) hours of early childhood classes (prefer 18 hours of early childhood classes) OR Must have high school diploma and 30 hours of college credit, including 6 hours in child development and must be accompanied by one year (1560 clock hours) of direct child development experience in a licensed day care center OR Must have high school diploma and Child Development Certification
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
CPR/First Aid. Food Handler Certification Illinois. Food Handler Certification required within 30 days of hire. Must meet DCFS certification for driving if driving a motor vehicle in the position.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Must be familiar with current DCFS licensing standards and exhibit knowledge of appropriate development for children ages six weeks through twelve years.
Essential Functions:
- Communicates with parents daily to update them of events and inform them of concerns when appropriate.
- Maintains children's personal assessments.
- Maintains classroom discipline by guiding children with appropriate voices and actions; following the guidelines as outlined in the staff handbook.
- Maintains inventory of classroom equipment and supplies by reporting any broken items; reporting to office when supplies are running low.
- Provides direct supervision to the children by interacting with the children at all times. The teacher should play with the children at the child's level.
- Works with center's curriculum by working closely with the other teachers in the room to plan activities that are developmentally appropriate to the age levels, planning monthly outings and/or speakers, and having materials prepared before activities.
