High School Cheer Coach

Reports to: Athletic Director and Activities Director

Timeline: September - December (Semester 1) and January - May (Semester 2) After school/Evenings 2-3 times per week for 1 - 2 hours.

Purpose: Position is responsible for coaching student athletes in Cheerleading activities. Provide guidance regarding techniques to prepare them for events or competition. Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport. The Coach provides leadership and supervision for team and individual sports, and works closely with the the staff and administration of Josephinum Academy of the Sacred Heart.

Responsibilities:

  • Helps to coordinate and supervise High School Cheer program and team.
  • Help students achieve gains in athletic skill and team performance.
  • Design a training program and event/contest program.
  • Attend any meetings requested with the Athletic Director
  • Develop team rules, communicate them to the players and their parents, and equitably enforce them.
  • Maintain appropriate notes and stats
  • Keep open and honest communication with coaches, parents, athletes, students, faculty, staff and administration.
  • Ensure that student athletes meet eligibility rules.
  • Ensure that physical evaluation forms and permission forms are properly completed and filed in the Athletic Director's office.
  • Ensure that student athletes adhere to training rules, grade requirements, and rules of behavior.
  • Ensure the continual supervision of student athletes at practice and at events.
  • Ensure that health and safety precautions are observed during all activities.
  • Immediately report all major injuries incurred during practice sessions or competition to the Athletic Director and Principal.
  • Ensure proper purchasing, inventory, and care of equipment.
  • Submit a complete team roster to the Athletic Director.
  • Submit a written summary of season to the Athletic Director at the close of each season.
  • Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
  • Support the value of an education.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • IHSA Coaching License, NFHS certification, ASEP certification, or ISBE certification
  • Have a valid driver’s license, get approved and be open to drive 15 passenger bus
  • Experience coaching (preferred)
  • Experience cheering

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: Up to $25.00 per hour
