JOB SUMMARY: The Homemaker provides assistance with home management tasks, protective supervision or companionship to adult and geriatric clients in the client's place of residence. Under direct supervision of a Lifespan Care Manager. Also receives direction and supervision from the Staffing Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience/training as a homemaker or attendant
• Understanding and compassion for the care needs of the frail elderly.
• If driving a vehicle during work hours you must have a clean DMV record, automobile insurance, and a current California Driver's license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to show up to shifts on time and work hours of shifts as scheduled.
• Ability to travel to/from and work in the Lifespan client’s home.
• Ability to get along with coworkers and management and deal effectively and professionally under pressure.
• Ability to communicate effectively in conversation and by telephone.
• Ability to accurately and legibly chart written communication.
• Ability to perform housekeeping duties.
• Ability to assist clients to ambulate safely.
• Walking, reaching and/or bending.
• Lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participates in orientation and in-service program
• Complete a minimum of four in-services a year.
• Complete annual universal precautions and safety in-service.

Provides for the safety needs of clients, staff, and public.

• Notify appropriate staff person of safety problems and modify unsafe area if feasible.
• Understand and comply with agency policies regarding safety and infection control.
• Provides home management services to clients in their place of residence.
• Home maintenance, including but not limited to: sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dishes, cleaning the bathroom, taking out garbage, dusting and picking up, and changing linens.
• Laundry service, including washing, drying, ironing, and putting away.
• Meal preparation according to diet instructions. Makes meals attractive, balanced and nutritious.
• Assist with shopping and errands.
• Pet care, including feeding, assistance with veterinary care, maintenance of litter box, and grooming.
• Plant care, watering of plants inside and outside and other light gardening activities.

Provides supervision and companionship for clients in their place of residence

• Protective supervision for clients who can’t be left alone.
• Assistance to client with appropriate social/recreational activities.
• Supervise clients in the taking of pre-dispensed medication.
• Reports all changes in client's condition to the Care Manager.
• Works as part of the care team for the benefit of the client. .
• Communicates with co-workers in a direct, supportive and respectful manner.
• Directs any complaints to the appropriate Lifespan supervisor.
• Demonstrates good work habits and professionalism.
• Follows through on all shift commitments.
• Arrives on time to all shifts.
• Knows and follows Lifespan policy.
• Maintains client confidentiality.
• Represents Lifespan in the community in a professional manner.
• Understands boundaries and limits of professional relationship and role with Lifespan.

Documents care provided on designated form.

• Charts in an accurate, legible, thorough and appropriate manner, including only pertinent information.
• Charts date, time, and signs full name.

• Cooperates with and accepts changes in policy, procedure, personnel and environment.
• Accepts guidance and direction from Geriatric Services Director, Care Managers, Human Resources, and Staffing Coordinators.
• Utilizes time effectively to complete assignments on time.
