Performs routine manual work in the cleaning of building. Assignments are performed in accordance with established methods and procedures. Is responsible for daily cleaning in designated areas and may perform special project work. Utilizes manual equipment and simple mechanical devices, such as floor machines and vacuum cleaners, (tank and upright, wet/dry pickup). Uses various types and sizes of mops, brooms, and cleaning cloths. Uses specialized equipment such as automatic scrubber’s, carpet shampooers, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cleans, mops, scrubs or sweeps floors, stairways and halls, waxes and buffs floors; removes old finish from floors and refinishes same as scheduled.
  • Washes walls, ceilings, doors, and trim by hand or with washing equipment.
  • Cleans, washes dusts or polishes hardware, brass, furniture, mirrors, lighting fixtures, windows, window sills, vents, radiators, and exteriors of cabinets and equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains locker rooms, shower, toilet, and washrooms in a clean and orderly condition; replenishes soap, towels, and tissue into containers.
  • Empties waste paper baskets and trash containers; replaces liners; checks and re-empties waste basket periodically.
  • Cleans patient’s rooms thoroughly; performs duties such as mopping floors, washing furniture, scrubbing plastic cushions and bed frames, making beds, changing linens as needed, cleaning and washing bathroom fixtures, dusting overhead and bed lamps, and perform other general cleaning work.
  • Cleans drinking fountains and sand urns; spot cleans doors and walls; changes cubicle curtains when soiled.
  • Operates vacuum suction machines to clean flooded floor areas; vacuuming and shampooing rugs, performs manual work such as lifting or moving furniture and other heavy articles.
  • Notes and reports any repairs needed to supervisor, such as broken or cracked window panes, leaky faucets or toilets, loose tile, broken or dirty venetian blinds, burned out light bulbs, and equipment not operating properly.
  • Restock supplies to accomplish duties; pick up bottles, papers, and magazines to keep area in neat, orderly, and safe condition.
  • Cleans up and stores supplies and equipment in designated area after completion of the work.
  • Prevent unnecessary waste, loss of time, and damage to patient’s belongings.
  • Organize and plan work in order to get area completed within an eight-hour day.
  • Must adhere to a close standard of cleanliness at all times; must be able to accept many petty demands by general public; have the ability to perform tasks with due consideration for patients and by the Nursing department.
  • Protects confidential data or information about patients.
  • Must attend all required in-service education and training sessions.
  • Reports abnormal or unusual conditions observed or encountered. Instructs and trains employees in the work.
  • Assists with the evening/dinner meal service (5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) by acting as a runner between the Food Service department and the resident dining areas, providing food and/or drink as necessary.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
