The Ohio State University is seeking an HR Consultant experienced in delivering exceptional service in multi-dimensional organizations. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, progressive, and experienced HR professional who possesses proven human resources skills and business acumen. The candidate will support academic and clinical programs by helping to identify and fulfill talent needs, talent integration and employee development to meet the overall HR strategy in support of the strategic plan for the College of Dentistry. Through partnerships, this position will help educate, advice and support employees and managers on issues involving but not limited to employee relations, performance management, coaching, on-boarding, new hire orientation, organizational development and change management. Serves as an employee champion and communicates needs proactively with key stakeholders while having the ability to translate mid-range plans into operating results.

The HR Consultant is an individual contributor role who is responsible for providing strategic consultation to tie business objectives to employee and manager needs on matters including performance, talent planning/workforce planning, succession planning, learning and professional development, compensation, benefits, and related areas of human resources. The HR Consultant collaborates with leaders to effectively utilize core HR centers of excellence resources such as total rewards and talent management programs.

The College of Dentistry HR team is collaborative, solution-oriented, customer-focused, and fast-working. Success comes to the team through strong relationship-building skills, excellent communication and follow through, and understanding of the business and mission of the college.

The HR Consultant will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Deliver customer-oriented HR support and services in a timely and effective manner.
  • Understand the strategies and goals within the college and recommend innovative approaches to meet the business needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with HR centers of excellence and service center team.
  • Focus on details while leading projects start to finish.
  • Support a culture of diversity, equity, accessibility, inclusion, and social justice consistent with organizational values.
  • Remain agile in a rapidly changing, sometimes ambiguous environment.
  • Remain open and responsive to feedback from leaders and HR Business Partner.
  • Remain comfortable with a high-volume workload in a complex environment.
  • Understand and utilize technology and analytics to efficiently deliver HR outcomes.

About the College of Dentistry

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States and it is the only public dental school in Ohio. The college is divided into ten divisions with all major ADA-recognized dental specialties represented. The College has approximately 600 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Human Resources or related field. Minimum of 4+ years in Human Resources generalist or consultant role. Understanding of Ohio and Federal employment laws, reducing risk and ensuring regulatory compliance. Demonstrated ability to build relationship and establish rapport with all levels of the organization. Strong consultative style with proven experience supporting multiple areas. Strong mind-set for continuous improvement and meeting or exceeding customer expectations.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

PHR/SPHR or other professional certification preferred. Master’s degree; experience in health care and/or clinical environment and/or working in a public sector or large complex organization experience; prior experience with workforce planning, employee relations, diversity and inclusion, and performance management; demonstrated success collaborating with centers of expertise within a shared service model.

Hiring range for this position is $67,700 to $90,300, based on experience and education.
