Position Description
The Center for Policing Equity (CPE) is looking for a skilled Human Resources Generalist with 5 years of experience that has an unwavering passion for social justice issues. Under the direction of the HR Manager, this position will participate as a member of the Talent and Culture (HR) team in the Finance, Operations and Program Management vertical.
The HR Generalist will provide operational and administrative support to CPE’s Talent and Culture team. The main duties include providing support to the Talent + Culture team’s efforts by actively contributing to the execution of department goals, objectives and systems that support not only the efforts of the Talent & Culture team but the company’s strategic direction as it relates to onboarding, engagement and various people operations processes. The person in this role should have some knowledge of and experience with HR functions that span the employee lifecycle, including but not limited to: recruiting, onboarding, compensation, benefits, employee relations, time and attendance, performance management, professional development and offboarding.
This position requires the ability to work independently, with speed, attention to detail, and thoroughness, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Under the day-to-day supervision of the HR Manager, the HR Generalist will aid CPE in its efforts to achieve its aggressive recruiting and organizational growth and maintenance goals.
Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a point of contact for employees and provide support for various HR topics to provide information and resolve problems.
  • Support internal communications to ensure understanding of Talent & Culture programs ensuring consistency and alignment with the company’s brand identity, strategic direction, philosophies and tone.
  • Support the development, implementation, maintenance and legal compliance of HR policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines.
  • Manage the onboarding and employee change processes for all employees, with support from the HR Coordinator.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with managers and employees to promote our culture of open communication.
  • Assist with the build, documentation and improvement of people processes, including onboarding, performance, engagement and benefit enrollment and administration.
  • Maintain in depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in development and implementation of employee policies.
  • Leverage HR policies, programs and practices to create and maintain a positive, high performing work environment.
  • Collaborate in design, rollout and execution of employee engagement programs.
  • Participate as a collaborative member in cross-functional team initiatives.
  • Identify, review and analyze local trends & internal data to recommend solutions to the HR Manager to improve performance, retention, and employee experience.
  • Other duties include ad-hoc research and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • A well-rounded HR skillset, a true generalist with an appetite to apply their skills in a wide range of areas.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Human Resources experience; 5 years preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capability to apply discretion and sound judgment in managing complex processes, decisions and handling sensitive information.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated success through collaboration and teamwork.
  • Able to effectively manage multiple competing priorities and projects.
  • Working knowledge of employment laws and regulations (ADA, EEO, FMLA, FLSA) and the ability to appropriately spot employment risk issues. Multi-state experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work within compressed timeframes and embrace the sense of urgency, innovation and resourcefulness required in a fast-paced company.
  • Team player who quickly builds trust and working relationships.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in Google Suite and a willingness to learn and become proficient in various tech systems and platforms.
  • Experience working in a remote environment is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • SHRM certification preferred, but not required.
