Summary of Job:
This critical position is responsible for coordinating and maintaining the Humane Law Officer’s work by providing all necessary training and guidance to ensure the highest standard of service within the community. The incumbent will collaborate with the team to advance the processes and techniques for Humane Law Enforcement and to educate the public on humane pet ownership. The Humane Law Enforcement Field Supervisor builds and maintains positive relationships with animal welfare, law enforcement, and other related personnel and agencies within the Parish and State. Additionally, the individual is responsible for promoting and supporting the LA/SPCA's programs and mission.

Success Criteria & Essential Functions:
  • Collaboration and relationship building are essential in order to assist various local, state and federal agencies with animal cruelty complaints within the assigned region
  • Knowledgeable about investigation protocol and relevant law, the incumbent will provide assistance and subject matter expertise related to the investigation of animal abuse cases to law enforcement, and other organizations.
  • Results oriented, this position is responsible for establishing and managing progress towards operational goals and priorities
  • Excellent oral and written communication is required in order to help develop and deliver training of SOP’s and guidelines as they relate to HLE and disaster preparedness as assigned by Director of Operations
  • Focused on continuous improvement, incumbent will advance capacity and professionalism of HLE through participation in local and national partnerships, collaborations and professional organizations
  • Adept at diffusing conflict, incumbent may respond to situations involving animals in crisis due to human abuse and neglect or disaster. Incumbent must be able to navigate variety of public responses and inquiries while ensuring safety of all parties
  • Team oriented, this individual will coordinate activities with other LA/SPCA staff and volunteers on a regular basis
  • Demonstrating a high level of professionalism, this individual will represent LA/SPCA at meetings, conferences, donor functions and media interviews as needed
  • Support all other activities as identified by the Director of Operations
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor Degree preferred ; Associates degree required or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
  • Minimum 3 years serving in a supervisor capacity
  • At least 2 years combined experience in animal cruelty investigations, animal control or law enforcement
Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge:
  • General understanding of companion and large animal husbandry, animal handling and animal welfare principles
  • General understanding of animal infectious disease control and prevention
  • Understanding of and ability to apply the rules of evidence and chain of custody in criminal cases
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
Working Conditions:
  • Works in areas with high noise levels
  • Potentially subject to animal bites and scratches
  • Works outdoors in extreme weather conditions
Additional Information:
  • Must be 24+ years old and a drivers record acceptable to our vehicle insurance provider
  • Considered essential during emergencies, incumbent is expected to work extended hours during emergencies and weather events. Ability to work weekends and holidays and maintain a 24 hr. on call status as needed
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds; push and pull heavy objects; bend, twist, reach; perform strenuous physical activities including frequent walking and running, standing, bending and stooping
  • Should not be allergic to animals or nut products; must be able to work around all animals, including wildlife
  • Must be able to work with industrial strength cleaners and disinfectants
  • Bilingual proficiency preferred but not required (sign on bonus provided for this additional skill)
$20.00-$21.00/hour
