Job description
Basic Function: Oversee all operations of the John V. Hanson Career Center (located in Forest City, Iowa). Lead and manage pertinent meetings. Facilitate all credit and non-credit course offerings including registration of credit and non-credit students.
Support work-based learning for students in grades 9-12 enrolled at the schools attending the Center. Implement goals of the Intermediary Network Grant, including strategies to promote and enhance career awareness and preparation. Connect students, educators, and businesses through relevant work-based learning opportunities. Expand and strengthen relationships with schools, employers, economic development organizations, and other entities in the NIACC service region.
Salary & Benefits: Salary of $52,000 - $62,000 based on experience. Benefits package includes Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance; eye care, dental, life and disability insurance; paid vacation and sick leave; and a choice of IPERS or TIAA retirement plans.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in relevant field required, master's degree preferred. Experience working with students, businesses, and career exploration plus three years of applicable administrative and/or supervisory experience required. Additional experience working with apprenticeships and individuals with disabilities is also preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively with business and industry and the community college to serve students. Strong organizational skills. Ability to focus on details to progress towards statewide and local goals. Computer literate including ability to use Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Must be able to work independently with good judgement in perceiving priorities and meeting deadlines. Have the ability and desire to work cooperatively in a team environment. Must have strong interpersonal and communication (listening, presenting, writing) skills.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for John V. Hanson Career Center building management: access to building, room rental/meeting/scheduling, oversee student computer lab.
Assist in the hiring, training, and supervision of career center instructors.
Track, report, request, and/or provide services, equipment, and supplies; including building repair, maintenance, and security.
Serve as after-hours emergency contact for law enforcement and other agencies.
Promote the John V. Hanson Career Center by speaking and listening to community members, speaking to groups, working with Marketing Department, and distributing bulletins and flyers.
Responsible for reception and telephone duties at the John V. Hanson Career Center.
Manage and lead the John V. Hanson Career Center Advisory Council meetings.
Coordinate and promote rotating NIACC services offered at the John V. Hanson Center (Admissions, Financial Aid, etc.)
Coordinate and promote credit and non-credit course offerings.
Provide input on annual budgeting matters and equipment requests. Monitor income and expenses during the year.
Responsible for room setup.
Keep up to date a John V. Hanson Career Center building manual with procedures and information.
Facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Intermediary Network Grant.
Coordinate core services such as student job shadows, internships, worksite tours, and interactive speakers, as well as provide educator worksite tours. externships, and other core services.
Develop relationships with regional employers to promote involvement in work-based learning opportunities.
Promote business, education, and community visibility of work-based learning network.
Collaborate with the Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services work-based learning intermediary coordinator to assure all students have access to quality work-based learning opportunities.
Collaborate with the Director of School Partnerships and Division Chairs on program/course offerings and curriculum changes at the John V. Hanson Career Center.
Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.
