GDIT has an immediate opportunity for Junior Linux Administrator with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance located in Woodlawn, MD. In this role you will be an active member of the HIGLAS-HOM Linux Team performing installations, upgrades, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, patching, securing and repair of Linux servers in a heterogeneous environment. The right candidate will work well with a team, always exhibit excellent customer service skills and be self-motivated seeking ways to improve the environment.

GDIT is supporting Hosting, Operations and Maintenance (HOM) services for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Healthcare Integrated General Ledger Accounting System (HIGLAS) program. On this program, GDIT is responsible for providing proactive and predicative Operational management and engineering support of the HIGLAS enterprise environment.

*THIS ROLE IS 100% REMOTE AND PERFECT FOR A NEW COLLEGE GRAD OR RECENTLY DISCHARGED VETERAN!**

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Provide technical knowledge in the areas of system installation, troubleshooting and problem resolution.

  • Set up administrator and service accounts, maintains system documentation and installs system-wide software.

  • Perform system updates, implement changes in multiple environments from test or development to production.

  • Monitor infrastructure, systems operations, and critical application services 24/7; provide information and statistics relevant to system limits on capacity, data storage, system utilization, etc.; respond to critical outages and restore services within agreed upon service levels.

  • Develop and interpret detailed installation instructions and supporting documentation to effect system design deployments.

  • Interact with the Team Lead and site staff.

  • Support Virtualization technology using VMware and Linux Kernel Virtualization.

  • Assist with performing firmware upgrades and managing Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM)

  • Assist with coordinating replacement of failed components Oracle hardware

  • Monitor and administrate of Operating system and its components (Disks, mount points, Packages, Users etc.)

  • Implement proper system patching to address security vulnerabilities and accurately report security incidents

  • Assist with automation of server builds, standardizing images, and managing Linux systems via central management tools such as Satellite, Spacewalk, or Puppet/Ansible, etc.

  • As part of a 24/7 operations, perform the activities associated with the management of dedicated ticket queues to include prioritization of work and assignment to technical resources for resolution of end user concerns while ensuring service levels and objectives are met.

Requirements:

  • 0+ years and a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience (such as Associate's degree + 2 years of relevant work experience, or combination of IT training and experience).
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident is required to be considered for this position.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance which requires having resided in the US 3 of the last 5 years.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 6+ months' experience in Linux Administration
  • Relevant Linux certifications such as: LPIC-1, Linux+, or RHCSA
