Position Responsibilities:
· Ensure that department employees are focused on process safety and risk management objectives.
· Direct the routine operations of the RBF laboratory.
· Participate in research and development activities.
· Conduct bench scale experiments
· Contribute to the ongoing success of the BQ-9000 Quality program. Participate in internal as well as external audits.
· Train lab technicians in all necessary analytical and safety procedures with appropriate training materials.
· Schedule sampling and testing to insure on spec production.
· Provide quality analytical support, in a timely manner, for product specification status, process analytical support and process evaluation.
· Maintain a quality assurance program for the lab.
· Responsible for troubleshooting as well as scheduling maintenance for analytical instruments.
· Maintain the laboratory data management system
· Plan analytical procedures use in complex analysis situations by adapting standard company procedures or devising local procedures where necessary.
· Review changes to company chemical analysis manual and approve for issue.
· Review monthly inventory of chemical supplies and equipment.
· Responsible for managing laboratory support staff and maintaining an adequate inventory of glassware, materials, and laboratory equipment.
· Ensure that all regulatory requirements are adhered to.
· Maintain standard operating procedures and records to comply with regulatory requirements.
· Develop and administer annual budget
· Provide engineering support to develop processing plans and monitor process operations
· Support all project engineering from concept to implementation phase
Experience:
· At least 3 years of managing lab experience, preferably in the biodiesel or oil and gas industry.
· Strong personal communication and leadership skills. Experience as a section head in a chemical laboratory desired
· Significant experience using laboratory equipment, a range of analysis methods and developing procedures
· Understanding of requirements to maintain the facility laboratories to NATA guidelines
· Significant experience operating and performing basic maintenance on gas chromatographs, ICP is desired
· Has ability in non-standard analysis and exposure to R&D activities
· Well developed PC skills including the use of all MS products and use of a laboratory information management system (LIMS)
· An understanding of laboratory costing and budgetary control
Education:
· Master’s degree or equivalent in chemistry or chemical engineering
