SMX is seeking a Senior Designer to help direct the product development of a new USINDOPACOM sponsored AI/ML enabled, simulated planning and wargaming tool (STORMBREAKER).
The Senior Designer will bring their expert knowledge of product design principles to help digitize the Joint Planning Process. They will need to understand and interpret both the user needs and the planning process program requirements. The complexity and value of operational information flow to decision-makers is vital and the Senior Designer will be able to assess and evaluate how best to capture and represent this information then communicate this to the program stakeholders and developers.
This position will be part of the core program development team. Our Senior Designer will liaise with a team of internal Subject Matter Experts [SME's] to understand how they work within the planning process. You would be a great candidate for this position if you're able to capture and communicate complex processes across a diverse team with varying levels of subject matter understanding. You must be able to translate high-level requirements into a consistent product direction while carefully balancing both the short and long-term goals of the program.
The candidate for this position must be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and be able to able to communicate effectively. They must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, make decisions in the midst of ambiguity and meet deadlines. The successful candidate will be a self-starter that needs minimal supervision.

This position requires the ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance which requires US citizenship for work on a DoD contract.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Produce design documentation and user flows to communicate the product direction and requirements with SME's and program leads
- Manage product requirements capture and inform backlog prioritization
- Monitor industry trends and competing products to continuously inform and guide the development of the product
- Work closely with business and technical stakeholders to drive measurable results and achieve the level of capability required from the program
Required Skills
- Proficiency with modern development methods
- Strong experience in modeling and sim design systems
- Some Travel may be required
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree
- ~4 years in a Senior or Lead Design Role
- ~7 years industry experience in games or product design
