SEEKING LEAD TEACHER – KINDERGARTEN AFTER SCHOOL 1/2 DAY PROGRAM

The Prescott Community Center is located in the heart of downtown Groton, MA, and offers community education, arts, and recreational programming for all ages. In the fall of 2023, the Prescott Center will open childcare for kindergarten children who are enrolled in the half-day kindergarten class and who need afternoon care.

Join an exceptional team at the Prescott Community Center in Groton, MA, and lead our childcare program for kindergarten-aged children from noon – 6 pm to provide care for those children attending only half-day kindergarten and who need continuing care for the rest of the day. We are looking to hire a Lead Teacher who will be in charge of teaching, supervising, and managing a classroom of children in our EEC-licensed center.

This experienced teacher will work with parents, administrators, and other staff to plan and carry out a daily program that meets the physical, social-emotional, and developmental needs of the children in their care. They also evaluate and improve the physical environment of the classroom, communicate with parents, and provide a safe space for children to learn and grow. This is an opportunity to create a curriculum and take advantage of a facility that offers additional resources for education, curiosity building, and play with access to a gymnasium, playfield, and playground for programming.

Responsibilities for Lead Teacher: Create weekly plans and implement an age-appropriate curriculum that nurtures and stimulates all domains of each child’s development in their care
Provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects the children’s learning and growth
Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents and caregivers
Ensure that each family receives an opportunity to build strong relationships with teaching staff
Provide a classroom environment that encourages parent participation
Perform ongoing developmental evaluations of children as required

Qualifications for Lead Teacher include: 2 years of teaching experience; Completion of EEC essentials; Bachelor's degree preferred, valid CPR certification; able to lift up to 40 lbs.; excellent verbal and written skills; prepared to pass criminal background check; demonstrate record of making decisions on behalf of children with their well-being as the top priority; effectively plan, organize and implement educational activities; must have experience developing curriculum for elementary-aged children; able to maintain an overall positive and professional disposition; strong knowledge of Microsoft office is helpful.
