Devon Prep seeks an additional Learning Specialist to join the Counseling Department for the 2023-2024 school year. The Learning Specialist collaborates with the School Counselors to provide academic support to students with documented learning differences, serving as a liaison between students, teachers, and parents to advocate for the student’s academic needs. Specifically, the Learning Specialist will coordinate compensatory strategies, executive functioning skills, and metacognitive awareness for students’ learning and academic success in grades 6-12.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

● Work with students individually and in small groups, providing support in executive functioning, reading, writing, and study skills.

● Work with students individually and in small groups, providing curriculum support to students in their core academic classes (language arts, social studies, science, religion, and possibly elective classes)

● Experience providing and teaching writing to diverse learners

● Review psycho-educational evaluations and develop student learning plans

● Consult with the faculty to review learning plans and accommodations to help ensure optimal learning experiences for students in their classes.

● Attend grade level and departmental meetings as requested by members of the department or administration.

● Support testing accommodations as needed, including extended-time proctoring, small group, and/or breaks as needed.

● Coordinate requests to College Board and ACT for accommodations and proctor extended time testing for standardized exams.

● Consults with the Admissions department regarding potential student admissions as requested.

Skills and Qualifications:

● Bachelor's or Master’s degree in special education or a related field with one to three years of learning support experience in a school setting.

● Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

● Ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff, administration, and parents

● A demonstrated commitment to professional development

● A sense of humor, a warmth of personality, and energy

● Positive attitude, flexible approach

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
