Full-Time Learning Specialist, Supporting Transitions and Reentry (STAR) Program: Lynn, MA, MCCC Unit Professional Position; Pay grade 5; Grant funded. Work schedule: Mon., Wed., Fri.: 8:00am-4:00pm; Tues./Thurs.: 12:00pm-8:00pm (37.5 hours per week)

SUMMARY: Programming at STAR will focus on educational attainment and reentry. In collaboration with the STAR team, the Learning Specialist supports students in gaining the knowledge and skills needed to obtain long-term, living-wage employment, and to access support systems through connections with community partners. The STAR Learning Specialist reports to the Education Director.

This position is considered an essential position by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the event of the Governor's decree of a state of emergency.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Learning Specialist will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Work in conjunction with STAR Leadership, STAR Navigator, the Spectrum Life & Career Navigator and community partners to meet the needs of justice-involved individuals and to support their academic and vocational goal attainment
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction (i.e. - serve as coach and course facilitator to assist students in completing computerized and/or self-paced course work and/or alternative study options; work with individual students as needed; administer informal assessments, monitor student performance progress.
  • Use technology to enhance student learning and increase student progress.
  • Facilitate successful transition into public and/or private educational settings, HiSet preparation, skill training, post-secondary education, vocational training, and/or entry level employment.
  • Support building relationships and strong partnerships with the network of community educational and vocational colleagues.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary team to share caseload information, identify, and prioritize the individual needs of each participant.
  • Follow established procedures and timeline for requests for transcripts, updated files, and current computerized records in accordance with ECSD procedures.
  • Position may require travel.

Job Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in required discipline, or closely related field; with one (1) year experience and/or training that includes teaching, instructional technology or program development; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience teaching multi-cultural students
  • Ability to coach students in five (5) HiSET subject areas: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science, as well as ESOL.
  • Working familiarity with College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education and English Language Proficiency Standards for Adult Education.
  • Must have scheduling flexibility, willingness to work evenings occasionally, in which compensatory time will be granted.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office.
  • Access to reliable transportation including proper vehicle insurance maintenance.
  • Excellent communication skills - written, oral, interpersonal

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual fluency
  • Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse, urban population.
  • Familiarity with the ORAS (Ohio Risk Assessment) CST (Community Supervision Tool)

GRADE AND SALARY:
Anticipated salary range is $59,244.00.00 to $62,262.00 annually with complete fringe benefit package. Complete fringe benefit package including competitive health insurance, dental insurance, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance, paid sick, vacation and personal leave, educational benefits for employee/spouse/dependents, and excellent retirement benefits. Actual salary calculated in compliance with MCCC/MTA classification system. Transcripts will be required at the time of hire.
