The Arizona Attorney General’s Office State Government Division/Natural Resources Section is seeking a Legal Assistant Project Specialist. This position may be eligible for Remote Work two days a week.
The Natural Resources Section is responsible for representing state agencies in advice and litigation matters, including complex water rights adjudications. The responsibility of this position is to support the lawyers that perform the Section's work. In particular the position provides substantial and critical support to the lawyers tasked with representing state agencies in the water rights adjudications. The quality assistance provided by a competent, highly trained legal assistant allows the lawyers in the Section to improve the quality and efficiency of their practice. This position reports to the Section Chief Counsel and water attorneys; is privy to attorney-client confidential and privileged information and attorney work product information, protected from disclosure by professional ethical requirements and statutes.
This position performs some of the most complex paralegal work by conducting legal research; drafting pleadings, disclosure statements, discovery responses and correspondence; gathering documents, organizing litigation files, and reporting on status of the various contested cases in the water rights adjudications, and other cases involving water rights. Also performs research for other section matters. Assists with pretrial preparation and at trial in complex and largescale civil litigation cases. Will be responsible for maintaining regular attendance.
Knowledge of concepts, terminology, principles and procedures of American Law.
Knowledge of ethical responsibilities and duties to clients, the courts and others flowing from those responsibilities.
Knowledge of the methods and techniques of legal research and the use of statutes, codes and other legal resources.
Knowledge of the methods, techniques, and principles for writing briefs, reports, and other legal documents in appropriate format.
Knowledge of the functions and jurisdictions of local, State and Federal courts and related criminal justice agencies.
Knowledge of discovery, how it works, and the time constraints involved.
Knowledge of good file management and effective trial preparation.
Skill in gathering information for discovery and disclosure.
Skill in writing complex legal documents/reports.
Skill in organizing complex litigation files.
Skill in extracting and utilizing information from statutes, court decisions, legal documents and related records.
Skill in interviewing and eliciting information in a legal investigation.
Skill in interpersonal relations.
Skill in computerized litigation.
Ability to obtain and organize documents
Ability to review a file and understand the legal theories involved.
Ability to assist attorney(s) in trial preparation and at trials and hearings.
Ability to effectively use automated and manual sources for research.

Ability to use trial software for trial and hearing presentations.
Ability to work well independently and manage priorities.
