Osage County is searching for a light equipment operator for the County Road and Bridge department.
Under the supervision of the Road and Bridge Supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Operator is a non exempt position under FLSA. Various job responsibilities pertaining to road and bridge operations are handled by this employee. This position operates light equipment and performs routine maintenance and repairs to county roads and bridges. Excellent mechanical skills and strong communication skills are required.

Essential Functions

• Operates light machinery
• Performs road and bridge maintenance and repairs;
• Provides road condition updates as needed;
• Assists with ovenay repairs;
• Serves as a truck driver when needed;
• Prepares site for culverts;
• Performs site preparation for job sites;
• Files appropriate reports with supervisor as needed;
• Operates the roller, oil truck. broom equipment as needed;
• Performs welding duties as needed;
• Transports equipment to job sites;
• Prepares new black top areas;
• Performs routine service and minor repairs on assigned equipment and machinery.
• Provides snow and ice removal during inclement weather;
• Transports materials to job sites;
• Assists mechanics· as necessary;
• Distributes road barricades as needed;
• Assists with the maintenance of ditches and culverts;
• Provides weed and grass control to road shoulders and shop areas;
• Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This work is physically demanding and frequently requires lifting 70# or more. Climbing, pushing, kneeling, or reaching while performing maintenance, installation, and repair activities such as component replacement and handling, and other manual labor tasks.

EXPERIENCE:

1 – 3 years of similar or related experience is required. Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well within 6 months to one year of employment.

A working knowledge of light machinery, equipment maintenance, road and bridge construction repairs and maintenance is necessary.

EDUCATION:

A high school diploma or GED is required. A valid Kansas Commercial Driver’s License is also required.

This position requires a DOT Physical and Drug Screen.

Paid CDL Training available.

Job Type: Full-time
