REPORTS TO: Director of New Work
PAYRANGE: $21-$22 per hour
SCHEDULE: Weekdays, weeknights & some weekends
The Huntington seeks a dynamic, insightful arts administrator for a new position that bridges literary and arts engagement disciplines. Reporting to the Director of New Work, Literary Associate will be a hub for script reading and text analysis, and will also work deeply in public events and engagement.
JOB DUTIES:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
· Demonstrates proficiency in bringing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA) principles to all interactions with artists and stakeholders served by the theatre
· Coordinate the solicitation, tracking, and reading of plays under consideration by the theatre both for the general season and for application cycles of the Huntington Playwriting Fellows (HPF) program
· Read and review material under consideration by the theatre; scout as needed
· Participate in administration of the HPF program, including scheduling and participation in dramaturgical meetings with the cohort
· Lead post-show conversations, both with and without guest speakers, connected to Huntington productions, research and source potential guest speakers in collaboration with other staff
· Apply EDIA principles in interactions with all stakeholders, including in working with audiences and in reviewing material under consideration by to the theatre
· Create dramaturgical resource materials for Huntington productions both for internal use as well as in programs, lobby displays, e-blasts, and other formats; work both in collaboration with the Director of New Work and in support of guest dramaturgs working at the theatre
· Write select program notes, newsletter articles, and other institutional writing throughout the season
· Other tasks as assigned, including producing on special projects, readings, workshops, etc
REQUIREMENTS:
· 1-2 years of arts career experience; this may be in a literary office at a non-profit theatre or may span other humanities or arts non-profit organizations
· Excellent writing skills, including a strong grasp of grammar and an ability to shift voice to suit multiple formats and styles of writing
· Strong research skills, including library archival research
· Generous, kind, expansive ability to read work at variety of stages of development, with an ability to articulate the strengths and value of work that is not yet finished
· Ability to multitask and juggle multiple projects with overlapping deadlines at different stages of completion
· Collaborative spirit with flexibility and a knack for fluid, evolving projects
· Sense of humor, generosity, and optimism appreciated
