Staff Writer

Are you an experienced journalism with a love of Maui? Come join the team of Maui No Kā ‘Oi Magazine as a Staff Writer. You'll help produce the island’s premier magazine by reporting and writing stories about travel, history, culture, food and nature for readers on Maui and around the globe.

As a staff writer, you will:

• Travel throughout Maui County to understand the people and places that make Maui no kā ‘oi (the best).
• Capture oral traditions and history of our cultural leaders.
• Visit farmers, ranchers and business pioneers building our new economy.
• Shine a spotlight on volunteers working to improve the lives of our residents.
• Dine at food trucks and 5-star restaurants to report on our food scene.
• Use stories to uplift our tourism and hospitality industry’s leaders and front-line workers.
• Write about nature and the humans care for it.

These are the skills and attributes you will need to do the job well:

• AP Writing Style
• 5+ years writing for magazine or newspaper journalism
• Experience producing accurate, useful and entertaining stories for publication
• Currently residing on Maui or past resident of Maui
• Deep knowledge and understanding of Maui County or Hawaiian culture
• Honest, hardworking and a cheerful attitude
• Bonus skill: Photojournalism

What you’ll earn:

• A yearly wage ranging from $50,000 and $60,000. We also have positions open for part-time work – please inquire if interested.
• Option for advancement in responsibilities and pay.
• Additional benefits: Health insurance (more than 20 hours/week), paid vacation, sick/PTO, holidays, IRA retirement, more.
