Job Description

The Maintenance Supervisor safely and efficiently maintains a reliable fixed equipment facility in an underground mining environment to support production goals by improving uptime and reducing cost. The supervisor schedules the work of employees and contractors, inspects equipment and work, recommends end-of-life equipment replacement or refurbishment, and completes work orders and job reports as required. Duties are performed above and below ground.

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

REPORTS TO: Mine Superintendent

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday (Weekends as Required)

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise frontline maintenance employees to maintain a safe fixed equipment facility with the capability to meet production goals
  • Identify, Implement, and maintain CMMS database for preventative and routine maintenance on fixed equipment
  • Develop and maintain inventory of fixed equipment components and fluids
  • Identify, coordinate, and oversee work of contractors brought onsite for warranty or specialized work. Confirm that contractors have proper insurance and required regulatory training before working onsite.
  • Assist maintenance employees with challenging maintenance and repair work
  • Review pre-operation forms daily, plan, and prioritize repair work. Report, prioritize, and correct unsafe conditions first.
  • Follow all regulatory laws, internal policies, and procedures
  • Operate equipment as needed to troubleshoot, repair, and assess performance capabilities
  • Conduct and document workplace exams and complete preoperational forms
  • Use vigilant observation to identify safe and unsafe behavior. Frequently acknowledge and document safe behavior. Immediately correct and document unsafe behavior.
  • Coordinate between Fixed Equipment Maintenance and Mobile Equipment Maintenance activities to reduce downtime and protect the accomplishment of production goals
  • Maintain housekeeping in all areas worked in
  • Ensure employees follow all regulatory laws, internal policies, and procedures
  • Assist in training activities
  • Other Duties as Assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certified Underground Miner (Sterling provides training and certification)
  • Five years of leadership experience
  • Proficient in the operation and mechanics of fixed equipment
  • Good leadership skills – organizational, motivation, resource planning
  • Clear oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to Work in a fast-paced, challenging environment with little supervision
  • Prefer a bachelor’s degree

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB:

  • Traverse uneven, rocky surfaces throughout shift
  • Use hand and power tools, manipulate small and large components with hands and fingers throughout shift
  • Ascend and descend steep twenty-four percent grades frequently
  • Work underground and on surface in changing weather conditions
  • Climb ladders and steep stairs
  • Position body to move under and over equipment of various heights frequently during the shift
  • Use radio as primary means of communication to understand or convey safety alarms and work instructions
  • Don and doff PPE including a SCSR
  • Lift fifty pounds frequently throughout the work week
  • Handle chemicals common to fixed equipment like oil, grease, and other commonly used industrial fluids.
  • Work in confined areas
