Manitowoc Crane Operator

Department: Field Operations Reports To: Superintendent
Summary
Responsible for safe operation, maintenance, security, inspection and appearance of crane.

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to, the following:

Acts under general instructions and work schedules established by higher levels of supervision and works from plans and specifications.

Knows the capacity of crane at each operating radius according to length of boom by use of the load chart.

Places loads within fine tolerances and operates with skill using pile hammers, extractors and all types of buckets, headache balls and other attachments.

Must be skilled in the safe operation of all types of cranes.

Must have applicable certificate/license to operate cranes equipped with power and telescopic booms.

Responsible for daily inspection, routine maintenance, adjustments and appearance of the crane and must be prepared to perform or assist mechanics in major overhaul and repair.

Furnishes and maintains tools to perform routine maintenance and adjustments.

Responsible for daily inspections of the crane for wear and safety, fills out the crane logbook and ensures that the log is turned in at the beginning of each week.

Responsible for the dogging off and security of any floating equipment. Checks the security of the crane in inclement weather as needed.

Ensures the house exterior, house interior and the barge are cleaned and free of trash as applicable. Sets an example in observance of Company policies and procedures; including safety.

Performs other job related duties as may be required.
Safety
Integrates safety rules, policies and practices in all work elements; installation, movement and storage. Prevents and/or corrects unsafe conditions as the need arises.

Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.

Brings problems to the attention of the Foreman, Superintendent, Area Manager and/or Safety Department.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or two (2) years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have at least two years of experience driving 36 Inch precast piles.

Must have experience in a operating a Manitowoc 16000

Other Skills and Abilities

Must be at least 18 years old, have reliable transportation to work and able to pass a Department of Transportation physical/drug screen and possess a NCCCO LBC Certification

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, bend, twist, turn, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, work in cramped or awkward positions, hear and effectively communicate. The employee must have good vision and the use of hands/arms to handle, feel, manipulate, grasp and reach. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

A Crane Operator must have the mental disposition to accept pressure and get the job done in spite of unforeseeable conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have good coordination, depth perception and manual and foot dexterity. A Crane Operator must sit for long periods of time and is subject to vibration and jolting motions.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; large moving equipment/mechanical parts and vibration, dust, fumes, airborne particles, high, precarious places, outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

This position may require overtime work; work on weekends and /or holidays.
