The Mazama High School Counseling position gives the selected candidate the unique opportunity to work with a highly dedicated and innovative team to help students be successful academically, sociallly, and emotionally. Physical ability to adhere to OSHA and district safety regulations. Work within the district’s communicable disease control plan (blood borne pathogens) and be aware of the existence and potential exposure to hazardous chemicals as identified on the MSDS sheets. This position is considered a safety sensitive position.
District Job Description:
This job description applies to elementary, middle, and high school teachers, unless otherwise identified by a specific teaching assignment in an alternate job description. Additional responsibilities and qualifications may be added for a specific position by the supervisor.
Primary Function:
To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program, as designated by the Klamath County School District, in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
To provide, as a member of the counseling department staff, a comprehensive counseling program for students in grades nine through twelve and specifically provide services to meet the needs of assigned students; consult with teachers, staff and parents to enhance effectiveness in helping students; and to provide support to other high school educational programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Implement the school guidance curriculum through delivery of classroom units and infusion in content areas;
2. Guide individuals and groups of students through the development of educational and career plans;
3. Counsel individuals and small groups of students with problems;
4. Consult with teachers, staff and parents regarding the developmental needs of students.
5. Refer students with problems to appropriate program specialists or community agencies.
6. Participate in, coordinate and conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program and school;
7. Participate in and facilitate the intervention team process;
8. Plan and evaluate the building counseling program; and
9. Pursue continuous professional growth.
Preference will be given to those candidates with experience in current state testing coordination and evaluation, scholarship application processes, master calendar creation, senior project coordination, and a personality able to effectively manage multiple demands in a high stress environment.
