Job Summary
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or Provider, the Medical Assistant in IOL Adult Outpatient Services performs delegated functions as a member of the patient care team to provide a variety of multi-skilled services.
The Medical Assistant functions as support for providers and clinicians in the outpatient clinic setting. The support the position provides contributes to meeting the health care, safety and comfort needs of patients and the duties are performed in accordance with all existing regulatory, state, and company standards policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities
- Obtain vital signs/height/weight from clinic patients and document in appropriate patient record.
- Obtain necessary insurance authorizations for treatment in collaboration with provider and provide necessary information to Medical Administrative Associate for entry into Electronic Health Record.
- Obtain prior authorizations for medications in collaboration with provider and/or pharmacy and document in Electronic Health Record.
- Assist with data retrieval and data entry into various registries (Clozapine Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy; Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services; Department of Drug and Alcohol Program Reporting System, Connecticut Behavioral Health Partnership Insurance, etc.)
- Monitor clinical support pool and medication refill line in collaboration with Registered Nurse for patient and pharmacy refill requests and route to prescriber for review and transmission as appropriate.
- Complete and forward Transportation requests to prescriber for review and signature, transmit documentation electronically (fax or email) to transportation company and document in Electronic Health Record.
- Complete Visiting Nurse Association referral documentation including: a) printing of necessary notes or face-to-face assessments; b) demographic information; c) transmission of referral to VNA organization and d) documentation of referral in Electronic Health Record. Once VNA referral documentation is completed, present to Provider for review and approval signature.
- Maintain medical supplies, dispose of expired items as necessary, clean medical equipment and document in log per standards. This position may be required to document in the daily emergency cart log. Utilizes resources within scope of control in a cost effective manner.
- Contributes to improvement of department by participating in meetings, trainings, in-service education and performance improvement activities as directed.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Diploma from an accredited medical assistant program or Medical Certificate
- CPI and CPR certificate within 3 months of hire
