- The Medical Office Assistant I serves as the first point of contact for patients within the Bassett Healthcare Network. This is a key role in the patient centered care team.
- The Medical Office Assistant I demonstrates excellence in all patient and customer encounters including face-to-face and telephone interactions.
- The Medical Office Assistant I assures that a high quality patient experience takes place by providing administrative support to ambulatory patient care teams through excellent customer service, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills.
- The Medical Office Assistant I is responsible for providing clear, accurate, timely communication to nurses and providers regarding patients.
- The Medical Office Assistant I is responsible for accurate, appropriate scheduling of patients for optimum care and provider efficiency.
- The Medical Office Assistant I responsible for collecting demographic and financial information during the scheduling and/or registration processes to ensure full and timely revenue capture.
- The Medical Office Assistant I may have direct revenue responsibility through payment collection, cash handling, processing of insurance eligibility and managed care information.
- Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed.
Education:
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Associates degree or higher may be substituted for one year of relevant work experience.
- 1 year of relevant work experience required.
- Customer Service experience is preferred.
- None.
- Strong computer, customer service and communication skills required.
- Skills in medical terminology a plus.
- Ability to prioritize work.
- Must have the ability to handle confidential information and sensitive situations.
- Interpersonal skills to work with diverse people within and outside the organization.
- Busy medical practice/clinic environment with frequent patient interaction.
- Extensive use of computers and telephones.
- Must be able to identify and differentiate colors.
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
