General Summary
Under general supervision of the Sr. Director of Marketing & Communications, lead and coordinate the development, implementation, promotion and evaluation of consumer marketing, physician relations, media and public relations, community relations and internal communication for UMMC Midtown Campus. Manage personnel as well as operating budget. Work with UMMS Market Development, Physician Liaisons, web team, media relations and community affairs to establish and meet goals.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

- Develop and implement detailed long and short term marketing communications objectives and strategies to increase market share, use of services, improve patient loyalty, cross-sell services, and maximize our ability to network with UMMS while maintaining brand standards.
- Work closely with leadership of various departments to support development and implementation of effective internal communications programs.
- Manage the UMMC Midtown Campus marketing budget and track marketing spend with both marketing and business outcomes. Establish and maintain an evaluation process to determine return on investment and measure the ability to reach goals.
- Work closely with leadership and various department leaders to identify marketing opportunities. Also, routinely meet with constituents to keep updated on changes in the market, measure our ability to meet/exceed our customers’ needs and identify trends. Key groups include physicians, physician office staff, patients, visitors, EMS, community groups and organizations.
- Assist with coordination of community benefit activities, community benefits reporting, and implementation of the annual community benefits plan.
- As directed by the System Vice President of Media Relations & Corporate Communications serve as initial contact and spokesperson for most issues with the media and other external audiences and support an active media relations program to ensure maximum exposure of UMMC Midtown Campus accomplishments and clinical programs.
- Manage professional and support staff.
What You Need to Be Successful:
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in marketing, public relations, or a health related field required, or equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities have been acquired.
- Seven years experience in marketing (preferably health related) that includes knowledge of multiple marketing vehicles and ability to analyze data from lead generation of multi-channel analytics.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated effectiveness in creating and executing a marketing plan in a highly complex environment required.
- High level of proficiency and demonstrated effectiveness in problem solving and implementing new programs related to increased departmental and organizational efficiency.
- Highly effective oral and written communication skills are required to work with outside vendors/ contractors, various supervisory, senior management and administrative staff throughout the MedicalCenter and with external customers.
- Familiarity with the health care industry.
- Demonstrated creative writing capability required.
- Demonstrated ability to proofread marketing materials and documents.
- Proficient skills in directing, monitoring, evaluating, and motivating the performance of staff.
- PC literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office suites and Internet.
