SWCA Environmental Consultants is looking for a Natural Resources Technician (Temporary) to support projects in North Dakota and throughout the Midwest, and reporting to our Bismarck, ND office. This office offers a unique work environment and specializes in Renewable Energy, Transmission, and Oil & Gas. We are expanding our team and looking for dynamic individuals who are following their passion in delivering the highest-quality project work. What you will accomplish:
- Assist with conducting a variety of natural resources field studies including threatened/endangered species assessments, bat surveys, wetland delineations, and avian/wildlife surveys.
- Conduct fieldwork, organize and transfer field data, and write technical reports and permit applications related to Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and other resource planning/permitting, and/or natural resource disciplines.
- Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and tools during fieldwork.
- Safely operate SWCA-owned and rental vehicles, including 4-wheel drive vehicles.
- Completes individual tasks of low complexity or duration with supervision
- Performs data collection and mapping in the field
- Performs a broad range of tasks related to a variety of wildlife, plant, upland, and aquatic resources
- Assists in field data QA/QC
- Performs data entry and synthesis
- Conducts research following standard processes
- Contributes to discrete writing tasks under direction
- Troubleshoots routine problems with oversight
- Applies basic knowledge of regulations or guidelines to job
- Complies with the safety plan and may oversee implementation of the plan in the field
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or Demonstrated Equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Experience conducting environmental fieldwork.
- Experience with field and report writing related to the CWA and ESA.
- Avian study experience.
- Botany experience.
Additional Information:
- Ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain.
- Ability to easily access projects in Midwestern states.
- Ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Frequent travel will be required for the position, with field work sometimes reaching 80% of your time.
