General Responsibilities: The Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing clinical occupational therapy to Melmark New England individuals. Additional clinical duties of therapists include management of treatment delivered through direct therapeutic services, tracking information and consultative services as needed.
Melmark New England serves children, adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorders, acquired brain injury, neurological diseases and disorders, comorbid mental health disorders and severe challenging behaviors. Populations served are intensely physically challenging. The Occupational Therapist position requires that staff be aware that students who are served may exhibit aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior. Students served may have had multiple treatment failures prior to this placement. Occupational Therapists are expected to implement highly technical clinical and teaching programs that require Occupational Therapists to be constantly alert, attentive and ready to respond to student’s needs.
Basic Qualifications:
Education/Training: Graduate of approved Occupational Therapy Program with Bachelor's or Master's degree.
Certifications/Licensure: Current licensure for occupational therapy in Massachusetts. A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status. Must meet Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check requirements. Successful completion of employer provided certification in CPR, First Aid, Crisis Intervention, and Melmark’s Orientation Program and New Hire Onsite training program.
Skill(s): Skills in clinical assessment and evaluation as needed to accurately diagnose the occupational therapy needs of Melmark New England's individuals.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years occupational therapy experience preferred.
Interrelationships: Works cooperatively with all members of the multidisciplinary team (Nursing Services, Vocational Services, Clinical Services and Allied Health Services) to ensure that each student’s educational requirements are met.
