GENERAL SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting with daily patient care and clinic flow, patient phone calls, schedule appointments, operates and maintains specialized equipment for use in tests and studies related to patient treatment and staff teaching.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Specifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, physicians, patients, and the public.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to collect data and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to operate and perform routine-maintenance on various type of medical/testing/office equipment.
- Ability to learn or have a working knowledge of ocular anatomy, ocular conditions, and ocular medications.
- Ability to work with others in to meet the needs of the organization.
Performance Responsibilities
- Promptly and professionally assists the providers in patient care.
- Perform and document technical ophthalmic workups and testing (visual acuities, instilling ocular medications), patient interviews and histories, and other tests as trained.
- Communicate with patients regarding follow-up care, procedures, change in schedule, symptoms, etc.
- Maintains and cleans all equipment.
- Returns phone calls to patients and outside entities regarding patients’ needs.
- Assists with minor procedures.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Attend ophthalmology training as necessary to perform job efficiently.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Position requires: High school diploma or equivalent. Current CPR/BLS certification or must be obtained within 30 days of employment. Ophthalmic Assistant and/or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification is expected to be obtained after 18 months of employment.
Preferred qualifications: Three to five years of Optometric and/or Ophthalmic Technician or Associate experience highly desired. COA preferred.
