JOB SUMMARY: The Spectra Health optometrist is part of a multidisciplinary primary-care team focusing on the whole health of the patient. They are expected to use their skills and knowledge to provide high-quality vision care to Spectra Health patients. They will assess patients' eyes to identify vision defects, diseases, and/or injuries. The Optometrist will complete vision testing and exams, perform eye inspections. evaluate eye defects, as well as create and monitor treatment plans. They will prescribe medications and corrective lenses as needed and provide referrals for further testing or treatment when indicated. The optometrist will be responsible for the oversight of vision equipment and work collaboratively with assigned assistant. This position reports to the Medical Director.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform comprehensive eye exams
  • Perform vision tests and analyze results
  • Diagnose and treat ocular issues and diseases
  • Prescribe corrective lenses and eye medications as indicated
  • Handle or refer eyecare emergencies to appropriate level of care
  • Evaluate patients for other health issues such as diabetes, and refer to other healthcare providers as necessary
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical files for all patients.
  • Perform ongoing inspection of optometry equipment and/or tools, making sure they are fit for use.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Medical Director

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
  • Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree
  • Active and unencumbered optometry license in North Dakota
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • In-depth knowledge of eye-related disorders and conditions
  • CPR/BLS certification is required or must be obtained within six (6) weeks of employment
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook.
  • Ability to work on local desktop and in remote desktop sessions. Basic computer hardware knowledge.
  • Ability to gain proficiency in Spectra Health's organizational software programs including but not limited to the electronic medical or dental records, practice management systems, QuickBooks, and multiple web-site accounts.
Preferred:
  • 2 years' experience as an Optometrist
  • Previous experience in a primary care setting.
  • Previous practice management and/or supervisory experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The Optometrist works in a clinical setting that requires long periods of time on one's feet, standing and moving throughout the clinical environment. Periodically, the position requires Stooping, bending and lifting or carrying items that would be appropriate in an office environment, not more than 50 pounds.
