Page Turners Literacy Tutor
$15/hour - experience will be taken into consideration
$25/hour for Certified Teachers
After School Tutoring, 4-10 hours per week

Position Summary

The Page Turners Literacy Tutor is responsible for meeting individually with youth in grades K-3 who fall below grade level in reading skills. Tutors meet with youth on-site for half-hour sessions, twice per week at one of the following locations where the Page Turners Literacy Program is offered: Badger Elementary, Columbus Elementary, Foster Elementary, Highlands Elementary, Little Chute Elementary, and at both Appleton and Menasha Branches. Sessions will include a Read-Aloud Story, guided reading opportunity for the youth to practice their skills and a comprehension or phonics focused activity.

Position Responsibilities

• Work cooperatively and collectively with Unit Directors and school staff to ensure instructional programs and services are coordinated and are administered uniformly and equitably.
• Work supportively and jointly with the Literacy Program Coordinator to ensure Page Turners Literacy Program requirements are being met and reported on.
• Provide support in the identification and implementation of instructional practices, delivery systems, and formative assessment that maximize member’s growth in reading.
• Assists with Literacy Focused family engagement activities.
• Assists in the collection of data regarding Page Turners Literacy Program.
• Review class material with students by discussing text, working solutions to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments.
• Provide feedback to students using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students.
• Pay extra attention to problems and subjects student struggles with and provide encouragement and positive motivation.
• Tutor a minimum of 3 students throughout the year.
• Design and adapt tutoring sessions to meet the individual needs of students.
• Providing support including but limited to reviewing class material, discussing the text, predicting test questions, formulating ideas for papers, or working on solutions to problems.
• Attend training sessions and workshops as available.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Literacy Program Coordinator

Qualifications - requiring a majority combination of the following:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education preferred
• Elementary classroom experience with a reading certification or license preferred
• Deep knowledge of reading, writing and literacy development
• Advanced knowledge of some or all of the following: child and adolescent development, behavior management techniques, principles of effective youth development programming
• Experience in facilitating, developing and implementing youth development programs
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Passion for youth development and mission of the organization
• Ability to communicate effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds, ages 6-18, parents and other organizational personnel in a courteous and professional manner
• Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to motivate and inspire
• Ability to work independently and efficiently.
• Experience working with children and young adults and can provide the extra care and attention needed for specific subjects and test preparation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of subject matter relevant to students’ need
• Openness to new ideas, embrace change, and desire to learn.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 per hour
