Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for The Disability Resource Center to become a TypeWell transcriber. TypeWell transcribers use an abbreviation system to transcribe UNR classes for students who are Deaf and/or hard-of-hearing. Transcribers work independently and have exposure to exciting university classes. Successful candidates must have a flexible schedule during academic semesters and generally have summers and winter break off. This is a part-time LOA position, 25-35 hours/week, with some benefits included.
Required Qualifications
Excellent typing skills with a minimum typing speed of 65 wpm; ability to listen to and rapidly understand spoken English; excellent knowledge of English grammar, spelling and academic vocabulary; adaptability is important. Ability to operate a PC/laptop computer and tablet device; comfortable working in an academic setting with diverse populations. Must be able to work hours that correspond to students’ schedules.
Qualified candidates chosen for an interview must first complete and pass an online typing test and, if hired, successfully complete a paid 8-week online training course to learn use of specialized abbreviation software program and transcription skills.
