Purpose

The Pastor/Coordinator of Congregational Care assists the congregation in implementing its mission and ministries with specific responsibilities to oversee the pastoral care of the congregation by engaging in ministries of direct care, by coordinating such ministries with pastoral staff, deacons, health ministers and congregants, and by equipping congregants to participate in such ministries.

Administration

1. Maintain direct accountability to the Lead Pastor and Deacons, and ultimate accountability to the Pastoral Relations Team.

2. Attend to meetings, correspondence, calls, scheduling, reports, and related matters in a timely manner.

3. Prepare articles/announcements as needed for the church’s various digital and printed media.

Ministry Priorities:

Ministries of Direct Care

1. Provide pastoral care directly to congregants through visits, phone calls, emails, notes, conversations, etc.…

• Timely pastoral care should be provided for health and hospitalization concerns, deaths, and at times of crisis.
• Pastoral contacts should be made to shut-ins, visitors and congregants who have become separated from the church.

2. Lead the sharing and prayer time in Sunday morning worship services.

3. Provide or assist with funerals or memorial services, as requested.

Coordinating Ministries of Care

1. Coordinate and participate in the on-call rotation.

2. Coordinate and document contacts and visits made by self, deacons, congregants, non-salaried pastors, and other pastors and staff.

• Contacts or visits should be provided for health and hospitalization concerns, deaths, and times of crisis.
• Contacts or visits should be made to shut-ins, visitors and congregants who have become separated from the church.

3. Coordinate and participate with the Deacons in providing home communion.

Equipping the Congregation

1. Offer an annual workshop to equip deacons to carry out the caring ministries of the deacon body.

2. Offer an annual congregational workshop to encourage and equip congregants to participate in the caring ministries of the church.

Professional Growth

1. Participate in professional growth experiences, relating to congregational care, generational dynamics, and new member follow-up, as opportunity and professional need may indicate, with the consent of the Lead Pastor and Pastoral Relations Team.

2. Read books and articles relative to ministry areas.

3. Engage in personal devotional time and study of the scriptures.

4. Attend worship services on a regular basis and participate in the life of the congregation.

Work Schedule

1. Regular office hours should be established for routine consultation, utilizing a flexible schedule in order to provide needed coverage throughout the week.

2. A workweek should constitute 12-15 hours.

3. In the event of additional hours, compensatory time off should be taken.

4. Observe one and a half days off per week, free from interruptions. In addition, reserve the equivalent of two evenings per week for family and friends.

5. Periodic evaluation as to the character and quality of the Pastor/Coordinator of Congregational Care’s performance will be made by the Pastoral Relations Team in consultation with the Lead Pastor.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
