The Peer Support Specialist for the Teen Text Line functions as an integral part of the treatment team. The specialist exhibits competency in personal recovery and serves as a role model to youth or families enrolled in the program. The specialist will perform a wide range of tasks that are designed to assist youth or families in gaining greater independence, community integration and mastery over their recovery process.
How to Qualify:
1. Minimum High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred.
2. Registered Agency Affiliated Counselor Credential or ability to become registered within 60 days required.
3. Has completed, or has the ability to complete, specialized training provided or contracted by Washington State Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery in becoming a Certified Youth or Family Peer Counselor.
4. Minimum one year experiencing working and/or volunteering directly with youth.
5. Ability to work with a diverse population of staff and clients.
6. Ability to work with neurodiverse individuals is required.
7. Ability to calmly and repetitively model appropriate behaviors and challenging situations.
8. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make ethical and safe decisions.
9. Ability to manage individual stress and perform essential job functions in a safe and professional manner.
10. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
11. Must be 21 years or older.
12. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Core Responsibilities Include:
1. Participates as a member of the treatment team providing outreach, engagement, and support of ongoing services to enrolled families.
2. Utilizes personal experiences of recovery to provide peers guidance and support in their own recovery.
3. Assists teams in coordinating peer support systems. This includes facilitating access to food, clothing, hygiene, medical care, community resources and services.
4. Provides instruction and guidance to families on handling daily maintenance and social experiences.
5. Is aware of and follows through on service plans for assigned families.
6. Facilitates scheduled activities and provide appropriate supervision.
7. Provides transportation when taking clients/families to activities, shopping centers, school, court, family visits, etc.; drives company vehicles when available in transporting clients/families.
8. Communicates regularly with treatment team provides team with all pertinent information.
9. Completes assigned and required duties in a timely manner.
10. Attends and actively participates in weekly meetings.
11. Complete all required training and demonstrates competency in skills necessary for role.
12. Is aware of and available to all WISe services as needed for additional support in periods of crisis.
13. Conducts necessary trainings as needed and directed by supervisor.
14. Represents organization in a professional manner at all meetings, internal and external.
15. Maintains professionalism and unity when communicating with clients, their families, and other representatives; preserves client confidentiality at all times.
16. Effectively represents Excelsior in the community, to include but not limited to the City of Spokane, the State of Washington and other venues as attended.
17. Adheres to ethical standards, organizational policy and procedures, mission, vision, and values.
