Job Summary:
Provides assistance to the public such as completing and issuing building permit applications, collecting fees, answering questions and/or receiving complaints. Performs clerical support functions for the Building Inspectors including typing, copying and answering phones.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assists public in completing building permit applications; obtains information from plat and estimates footage for setbacks; directs applicant to Zoning; collects fees for permit once approved by Zoning and issues signs for posting on site.
- Answers public inquiries relating to building permits and inspections; researches requests, routes to appropriate party, and/or takes messages; receives customer complaints and forwards to appropriate department.
- Maintains building permit files; distributes approved permits and copies to customer and various City/County departments as required.
- Balances building permit receipts to money received and prepares for deposit.
- Communicates with field inspectors via two-way radio.
- Contacts power company to request power at building site during inspection.
- Types Certificates of Occupancy after final inspection has been completed.
- Provides clerical support to inspectors as requested to include typing correspondence, copying, relaying messages, etc.
- May prepare purchase orders for departmental office supplies; submits to Director for approval.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- No experience required.
Licenses and Certifications.
None.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of modern office methods, procedures, equipment, business letter writing, and standard clerical techniques.
- Ability to type 35 wpm and operate a 10-key by touch.
- Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with the public.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14.30 - $17.87 per hour
