Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate processing, billing, dispensing, and delivery of prescriptions and comprehensive pharmaceutical care based on Pharmacist’s discretion, legal requirements, and within the company’s policies and procedures
  • Counsel patients and prescribers regarding appropriate use of medications to promote patient safety and prevent medication errors
  • Oversee Pharmacy Interns, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Clerks with prescription fulfillment, prescription processing, billing issues, customer service, and inventory
  • Adhere to pharmacy best practices and works with other Pharmacists and healthcare providers to provide patient care
  • Review patient profiles and prescription history to closely monitor medication therapy for appropriate use, dose, medication interactions, therapeutic duplication, allergy information, age-specific dosage, and other pertinent data to provide patient-centered care
  • Document and communicate interventions with a patient, a patient’s representative, caregivers, and providers, especially if clarity is needed to provide care
  • Comply with safety, quality assurance, legal, federal, and state regulatory requirements, including staying updated with CA Board of Pharmacy email notifications
  • Immediately informs about medication dispensing and distribution errors to the Pharmacy Manager
  • Provide medication information and medication therapy guidelines as required
  • Monitor the pharmacy refrigerator, freezer, and drug inventory, especially controlled substances per state and federal regulations
  • Maintain appropriate prescription logs, drug invoices, and pharmacy records
  • Consult with other specialty practitioners to provide optimal patient pharmaceutical care
  • Maintain the pharmacy as a clean and safe work environment for pharmacy staff
  • Ensure security of the pharmacy, including opening and closing procedures
  • Is knowledgeable on drugs and products carried in the pharmacy to help patients with their medication orders or to help walk-in customers locate over-the-counter products
  • Assist with precepting pharmacy interns during pharmacy school rotations


Qualifications, Education and Experience Required

  • Doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD) graduate from an accredited pharmacy school recognized by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE)
  • Preferred minimum two years of direct customer service experience
  • Preferred minimum two years of community pharmacy experience
  • Preferred training to furnish travel medications, emergency contraception, self-administered hormonal contraceptives, nicotine replacement products, naloxone, and HIV pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis through training courses approved by ACPE, or programs recognized by the state board of pharmacy
