Pharmacy Technician Trainer
Job description
The Pharmacy Technician trainer will train and educate pharmacy technician trainees and current staff thorough proper didactic and practical applications, as well as comprehensive knowledge- and skill-based training; will be assessing, planning, coordinating, and evaluating educational programming and services required for all levels of technician and prepare them for the certification examination. Works in general and specialty areas of pharmacy practice; duties include all activities performed by a Pharmacy Technician.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Coordination, oversight and implementation of initial area-specific on-boarding and training for new employees
- Develop, review and maintain training materials, pharmacy standards of care, policies, and procedures
- Collaborate with pharmacy leadership, peers, nurses, and providers to improve patient outcomes and quality metrics in both general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice
- Provides ongoing training of current employees in both general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice
- Prepares new technicians and technician trainees for the technician licensure exam
- Assist with the review, evaluation and update of existing competencies and learnings and assessing needs for new competency assessments and learning
- Fills and delivers/dispenses medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist
- Uses appropriate systems for processing of patient information
- Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
- Attends and participates in departmental meetings, in-services, huddles, and departmental trainings as applicable
- Compounds sterile medications following department policies and USP Chapters 797 and large-volume intravenous admixtures
- Restocks and delivers drugs and related supplies to clinics within the building including automated dispensing machines per department policy and looks for expired medications
- Monitors stock levels and makes proper corrections in coordination with the supply chain personnel.
- Fills and delivers controlled substances in strict accordance with departmental policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Two (2) years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician required, Hospital experience preferred
- One (1) year didactic teaching experience required
- Pharmacy Technician License required
- BLS certification required within 90 days of hire
