Job description
The VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region is seeking a per diem Phlebotomist to join our caring team of professionals who strive together to be the best provider of home and community based healthcare in Vermont.
As a phlebotomist in our Homecare program, you will be working with clients in their homes, and transporting specimens from client's homes to local labs for processing.
Requirements:
- Certified phlebotomist preferred
- Minimum of 1 years experience preferred
- Valid state driver's license required. Ability to successfully pass motor vehicle record check, child abuse, criminal record check and adult abuse check required
Essential Functions:
- Confirms physician orders for specimen collection and completes laboratory requisition in accordance with agency protocol.
- Collects and/or properly labels specimens in accordance with agency and respective lab policies and procedures.
- Effectively carries out INR testing in accordance with agency and CAP protocol.
- Registers and enters accurate patient data information in accordance with agency policy.
- Transports collected specimens including, but not limited to, specimen batching, delivery to appropriate locations, specimen preservation, etc. in accordance with department policies and procedures.
- Takes action to ensure that agency drop-site centrifuge units are calibrated annually and routinely maintained.
- Delivers all collected specimens to appropriate location in a timely manner, and properly logs in specimen in accordance location standards.
- Reports customer, client and/or staff concerns, assists in analyzing causes, and take appropriate action including, but not limited to, re-collection, notifying physicians, Case Managers, Team Leaders, Coordinators, Director etc. as appropriate.
- Ensures proper specimen collection, integrity, preservation and safety during transport in accordance with agency policies and procedures and OSHA, CLIA, and VT and NYSDOH and federal regulations and standards.
- Assists in ensuring proper supply levels are maintained for designated specimen collection vessels. Notifies Medical supply Coordinator of needed supplies in a timely manner to ensure supply levels are maintained at appropriate levels to meet patient care needs.
- Attends on-going education and training courses to stay up on developments in the phlebotomy services.
- Stays up-to-date on age specific phlebotomy methods and techniques to ensure outstanding patient satisfaction and outcomes.
