Job description

This is a dual role - Phlebotomy and Medical Assistant Level 1 at Warren :

• Verifies positive identification
• Explain specimen collection, methods and procedures to patients
• Performs venipuncture
• Obtains and processes blood specimens for Research
• Labels, dates, and records specimens obtained
• Ensures that specimens are sent in a timely manner to the laboratory for culture and analysis
• Maintains record
• Assembles equipment such as needles, disposable specimen containers, tourniquet, gauze, etc.
• Monitors inventory

Medical Assistant 1 Job Description

Demonstrates the ability to learn basic medical terminology

Demonstrates the ability to perform height and weight and blood pressure

Demonstrates the ability to process 24 urine specimens

Demonstrates the ability to run a urinalysis

Demonstrates the ability to preform Post Void Residual (PVR)

Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical documentation in the electronic health record.

o Open office visit

o Document vital signs

o Document patient histories

o Document patient allergies

Demonstrates the ability to operate the autoclave including but not limited to:

• Cleaning the unit
• Ability to wrap and sterilize instruments.
• Ability to operate load controls and biological indicators

Knowledge of cold sterilization including but not limited to:

o Mixing solution

o Handling solution

o Solution parameters and expiration date

o Maintenance of solution logs

Demonstrates the ability to document in and maintain specimen logs, medication logs, MA lab logs.

Collaborates with the orientation of new personnel as requested and/or assigned.

Maintains confidentiality of patient records.

Ability to assist clerical/front desk staff when necessary.

Demonstrates the ability to work collectively with the urological team including physicians, nurse practitioners, Registered nurses, medical assistants front office staff, information management, billing and surgical boarding.

Phlebotomy Certificate required.
