Summary:
Provides professional medical services to complement the delivery of primary health care services at InterCommunity; provides clinical leadership to midlevel providers. Works closely with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the Chief Operations Officer (COO) to provide leadership and medical direction.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responds to emergencies and answers medical questions.
- Provides medical orders for prescription refills, administration of medications, ancillary testing, and/or referrals.
- Reviews ancillary test results and coordinates notification to the patient.
- Provides patient education as needed.
- Supervises patient care by non-clinic agencies such as home health care, nursing home, or hospice.
- Available to patients personally or through clinical staff to answer questions and relay information regarding their care.
- Completion of appropriate paperwork to comply with insurance and reimbursement guidelines.
- Completion of all documentation and paperwork in a timely manner.
- Responsible for approving and maintaining treatment protocols utilized by midlevel staff.
- Assists with orientation and training of midlevel providers.
- Reviews an adequate sample of mid-level medical records with emphasis on the appropriateness, efficiency, and quality of care provided.
- Adheres to Agency policies and procedures and maintains Agency confidentiality guidelines
- Provides assistance with OSHA, emergency preparedness, infection control and regulatory compliance.
- Represents InterCommunity at functions as requested.
- Performs other appropriate duties as required.
Education &/Or Experience:
Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy degree required. Current State of Connecticut MD or DO licensure required. Current DEA certificate and State CDS required. Experience in public health preferred. Considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral, written, and computer communication skills; considerable ability to examine, diagnose, assess and treat patients; ability to develop a collaborative group practice environment with other physicians and members of interdisciplinary teams; ability to analyze and interpret laboratory reports, x-rays and other medical and/or psychological reports and findings; administrative/supervisory ability. Three (3) years of experience in a hospital or outpatient setting.
